Hello my friends, and welcome to our Spring 2023 Newsletter!!
As always I’m thrilled to be sharing more updates with you, and a lot has been announced in the past couple of months. Firstly, I’m grateful for all the honors and awards that I’ve been privileged to receive this year.
While I’m not after trophies and accolades, it is of course with humble gratitude that I pledge my continued devotion to this work, and to always strive for excellence in all I do. It means so much to me that people appreciate and are inspired by this wonderful art form, one that I’m privileged to practice every day.
So, thank you!
My Spring season is in bloom with two marvelous roles: Lucia di Lammermoor at Teatro alla Scala, which is a new production that was postponed from 2020, and Fiorilla in Il Turco in Italia at the Teatro Real.
I’m always happy to sing bel canto, and in such fabulous theatres as these, it’s a great joy! Lucia I’ve sung many times, but to sing it at La Scala is an absolute highlight of my life and career, for which I feel very honored.
As for Fiorilla, it’s a role I sang early on in my career and after 12 years she’s back! I so enjoy singing comedic roles! It’s nice to have a change of pace from the more tragic operas I’ve been doing lately.
Both Amalia in I masnadieri in Munich and Ophélie in Hamlet in Paris were wonderfully successful runs, and it was also exciting to be part of the Mozart Requiem performance in Salzburg. What a treat.

Lucia
The new production of Lucia di Lammermoor, which was scheduled to inaugurate the 2020-2021 season, brings the opera back to the stage after its historical edition in 1967 with Claudio Abbado and Renata Scotto. Lisette returns to La Scala to give life to this historic return of Lucia to the theater.

LISETTE OROPESA IS CHEVALIER DES ARTS ET DES LETTRES
THE CEREMONY WAS HELD YESTERDAY IN PARIS, FOLLOWING THE YOUTH PREVIEW OF THOMAS’ HAMLET
Lisette Oropesa has been awarded the title of “Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” by the French minister of Culture. The Order is granted to «PEOPLE WHO HAVE DISTINGUISHED THEMSELVES BY THEIR CREATIONS IN THE ARTISTIC OR LITERARY FIELD OR BY THE CONTRIBUTION THEY HAVE MADE TO THE INFLUENCE OF THE ARTS AND LETTERS IN FRANCE AND IN THE WORLD».
The prestigious recognition was awarded yesterday, 8 March, to the American soprano of Cuban origins by Jean Philippe Thiellay, President of the Centre National de la Musique, during a brief ceremony held at the Opéra National de Paris, which followed the preview for young people under the age of 28 of HAMLET, by Ambroise Thomas, with Oropesa as its female lead interpreter.

The voice is wide, she has a good foundation, endowed with an iron technique, with a control of all the moments in all the register, knowing how to spin the notes, to measure the volume, to dose the effects with a scenic attitude always adapted, never overacting, surprisingly natural.

Her scene of madness, complete with repeats, earned her a well-deserved ovation.

But Lisette Oropesa has a pure soprano, with a bronzed medium, solar high notes, a flawless virtuosity and a perfectly intelligible diction. Her scene of madness, in undress, at the foot of a bathtub in which she lets herself sink, is striking. Just like her silent return at the end, a frail and poetic silhouette of a young girl on her knees scattering her own ashes from a funeral urn.

Reflections
Watching the video footage from our Vlog that accompanies this Newsletter, I was overwhelmed with how many beautiful things we saw these past few months. I’m so incredibly grateful that we have been able to travel and see some stunning places, experience the grandeur of nature, and the beauty of the intimate quiet of the wintertime.
With every new season there are surprises and more beauties to behold, and I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to experience these things, on and off stage, with my wonderful husband who’s always there supporting me and working together with me. We are lucky and beyond thankful that we can lead this incredible life, and that the road ahead is one that we march on together.
This work can be very demanding and difficult, but the rewards really are endless, if you open your heart to receive them. And every time I look around, I see gifts and blessings.
For each and every one of those, this Easter season reminds me to be grateful.
